Confidence in the power of Christ

Philippians 1:6 says, “Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Confidence in the power of Christ is important. He is the Alpha and the Omega, and everything in between is under His control. The number of our years are in His hands. So don’t worry.

So far as the world is concerned, it won’t devote its time to make you happy. And only when we accept that fact that we can begin to move forward or continue to move forward. In this world, much of the time life does not work out the way we plan. For example, there are some people you have ‘fallen in love’ (or some sort) and really wanted to marry that person, but it didn’t work out even though you spent so much time in prayer, money to buy gifts, and time just to attract her/his attention, etc.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain.’ So far as I know, Paul never got to Spain. Instead, he landed in prison in Rome. But God had a better plan-it was in prison where he wrote some of the Epistles which we have today as part of the New Testament. So your disappointment may turn out to be His appointment. All things work together for good to those who love God and are called to His purpose (Rom.8:28)

The Bible says, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps” (Pro.16:9). Aren’t you glad God is in control of your life? Let all the philosophers of this world argue over why life works as it does. They do not have the ultimate answer to life. They say, “Just focus on how to live it.”

Let me ask you some question young men and women: If you live to be a hundred, what good is it, if resentment and regrets keep you from enjoying it? And what good is more time, if you are just wasting the time you’ve got? You are just living on borrowed time.

I had my 75th birthday last week, I can honestly say that by the grace of God, I have no regrets. I have a full life. My Saviour Jesus Christ makes the difference. How about others? Wife, children, in laws, grandchildren, siblings, relatives and brothers and sisters in Christ and friends—they are just additional blessings and bonuses in this life. God gave them to me for my enjoyment in this life and in the life to come in heaven. My life is not perfect, but it is a wonderful life. My marriage is not perfect either, but it is a wonderful marriage. The only ‘perfection’ I have is the righteousness of Christ (Read Romans 4:13-25 great reading). My only hope in life and in my death is the righteousness of Christ; everything I have are dirty rags.

Do you know how an oyster makes a pearl? When a grain of sand gets into its shell and irritates it, the oyster wraps the sand in layers of beauty until a pearl is formed. An unknown poet wrote, ‘This tale has a moral, for isn’t it grand, what an oyster can do with a morsel of sand? What couldn’t I do if I’d only begin, with all of the things that get under my skin?’

God is at work in what you are going through today. Phil.1:6 says that ‘He begun a good work in your life and He will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.’ Don’t be in despair. Be Confident, trust Him. He works for your good and His glory. All by grace and by grace alone!
