Apple of His eyes

Why did God—the Father, Son and Spirit create this earth and all the other things in the universe? And why did He create you? Don’t you know you are so special? You are the apple of His eyes. The Psalmist said: “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit them together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! It is amazing to think about. Your workmanship is marvelous—and how well I know it. You were there while I was being formed in utter seclusion! You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe”. Psalm 139:13-15 (TLB).

Why did this Trinitarian God create work, play, relationships, love, romance, sports and laughter, etc. What is the main reason behind all these things? Did He just create you and He is up there in heaven watching and saying, “its up to you now, you can just float in the universe …‘que sera sera whatever will be, will be…’( a song in the 1960s). Is this all there is to life on earth-- just to eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die anyway? Or are you a person (Christian or not) just surviving each day--no joy, no adventure, no excitement and just patiently waiting until your ‘pump and water system cease to work’.

When you look at Genesis chapter 1-3, you get a better picture why the Trinity created you. God created almost everything and He said- it is good. Then the Triune God said “Let Us make man in our image” (1:26). Then after He created man and saw the beauty of creation he said collectively, ‘very good.” Then in chapter 2:18 in a more detailed account, there was something “not good.” It was “not good that man should be alone.” Joyful fellowship is needed, a partner, a wife, a woman. (vise versa)..

Then in chapter 3 we have the story of the fall. When Adam and Eve sinned they tried to hide themselves. But in love and longing for fellowship, God was looking for them in the Garden, “Where are you?” This is a question of longing, and of relationship. God’s heart must have been broken, because His “Master Piece” had disobeyed Him. He wanted them, once again, to be included in His fellowship of joy.

So when we start with the Trinity (and from eternity) behind the reasoning of creation, it is obvious that the Father, Son, Holy Spirit created you, because they want to share with us their-- shared joy, life, love and fellowship. You see, the Trinity is a joyful family—if you allow me to call this way—with all reverence and honour to the Father, Son and Spirit. The Trinity’s joyful relationship is secured and intimate. You can have it. It is an awesome gift. All by grace by grace alone. Why not open you heart to God? If you do, the rivers of joy will begin to flow in and through your life.
