Most precious creation

Hear the beautiful words of Psalm 139:13-14 which says:

“For You formed my inward parts;

You covered me in my mother’s womb.

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

Marvellous are Your works,”

Let me begin with this story about a man who believed in evolution, but later became a Christian and missionary. ‘Paul Gentuso was a budding evolutionist until he studied the human hand in medical school. “In anatomy class,” he said, “we dissected a human hand. In investigating the hand, I first removed the skin, then isolated the individual tendons and muscles as I worked my way to the bones. The tendons of the hand are aligned in tendon sheaths, like self-lubricating pulleys, allowing the hand to work in a tireless, noiseless, almost effortless fashion. It was perfectly designed to carry out all the work it was called to do, everything from lifting a small object to lugging a tree trunk.”’

The experience deeply affected Gentuso. Until then, he had entertained serious doubts about God’s existence. He further explains, “In seeing how each tendon was perfectly aligned along the axis of each finger and how each finger moved in a coordinated fashion when tugged by individual tendons, it became obvious to me that there was a Creator who had intelligently designed and created the human hand. This was the first time in my adult life that I could say with assurance that a Creator existed. It was really a spiritual experience for me. I went from doubt to certainty based on seeing God’s creation.”

Paul Gentuso later became a Christian missionary physician in Cote d’Ivoire, and a resident doctor in Nashville, Tennessee. (Robert J. Morgan, Beyond Reasonable Doubt (Wheaton, H. Evangelical Training Association 1997p. 19, quoted in Preachers’ Resources for Creative Sermons)

One of the most important reasons for embracing “divine creation” of our universe is the result in human dignity and happiness. In contrast, the outcome of believing in “evolutionary theory” are dark, sinister and deeply troubling. We know that scientists, collect some evidence from their theories by conducting different experiments to find out which is workable or not. We have a case in the history of our modern world whether evolution really ‘works.’

Did this experiment produce psychological and sociological health and happiness to everyone? Judge for yourself.

For example, Darwin’s theory of the ‘survival –of-the- fittest’ and material evolutionary theory were wholeheartedly embraced by Karl Marx. Marx ideology provided the basis for both Hitler’s Holocaust and Stalin’s genocide. There are many literatures written about these historical facts. This is a sad part of our dark history.(For further interest see, David Breese, Seven Men Who Rule the World From the Grave, Chicago; Moody Press, 1990)

On the positive side, we believe creation is true. We confess that we were formed by a loving God, created in His own image, the crowning glory of His creation, His masterpiece; and because of what His Son had did on the cross we become heirs of eternal life. As we continue our journey upon this earth we can proclaim with all our hearts that indeed we are a people with dignity and worth, surrounded by God’s splendid universe for our pleasure and enjoyment. As believers of the God of the universe, we are constantly directed and guided, not only by moral principles, but also by spiritual principles based upon the Word of God, resulting to having a sound mind, health and happiness. We take comfort of the great promises given to us from the Holy Scriptures. Of course, there are trials and challenges we face every day of our lives, but we have the assurance that we are the most precious creation, beyond that of any other tangible and intangible living creature on this planet.

Which options do you prefer? May the grace and wisdom of God help you find the truth and live for Him who died and rose again. All by grace and by grace alone.
