Male and Female

I gave you the first, second and third in the previous series)

Today is the fourth one. The words I want to emphasise are these “male and female.” This strongly suggests to us of our unique personality. While it is true that these two persons “male and female” equally shared God’s image and together they are partners in exercising dominion over creation—they were by divine design, physically diverse in order to accomplish God’s mandate. What was the mandate? To multiply and replenish the earth. Neither one could produce children without the other. Sex was God’s design within the bounds of marriage. It is Biblically correct to say that God created sex, as God created everything, “He saw that it was good.” Sanctified bed is admirable, because sex is God’s idea in the first place. M. O. Vincent, wisely points out, “it was God who created us with sexual feelings, urges, and drives, who created male and female, so we could bring one another satisfaction and pleasure. If God created us this way, He knows how we should use His gift. Clearly then, sex is not evil or bad. It is man who fell into evil by his own decisions and choices, and man, who can misuse many things in the created world, can misuse sex.” ( Merville O. Vincent, God Sex and You, Scripture Union, London 1971, pp. 130-31)

The institution of marriage was designed for male and female. I always thought that our Constitution (the basic law of the land) was based upon the Holy Scripture and in particular the Ten Commandments. We lay our hand upon the Bible in the court of law etc. (sadly some don’t do this anymore) to ‘tell the truth and nothing but the truth’. Nevertheless, God’s mandate to mankind is irrevocable and the Word of God stands forever. Let us pray for Australia and other countries in the world where marriage equality is legalised. Pastor David Jeremiah said ‘that the fruit of the Spirit is out of season in our culture’. In season are the works of the flesh such as adultery, fornication, idolatry, uncleanness lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outburst of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like’ (Gal.5:19-21). (From D. Jeremiah, Turning Points, November 2017 vol.19 issue 11, p.9).

To see a bigger picture read Romans 1:18-32. You will be shocked, especially verses 26-27 when the Apostle Paul says: “In consequence, I say, God has given them up to shameful passions. Their women have exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and their men in turn, giving up natural relations with women, burn with lust for one another; males behave indecently with males, and are paid in their own persons the fitting wage of such perversion.”

Pastor Jeremiah further points out that you can see ‘these qualities are spreading like weeds, invading our entertainment, government, social media, families and technology.’(Ibid) Christians, we need to pray for God’s mercy. The Bible says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and return from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2Chro.7:14, NKJV).

Let me tell you that God loves all people, ( that is why He sent His Son Jesus to atone for our sins), but not our sins, not our disobedience, not our deliberate desire to reject His perfect will in our lives. The Bible is crystal clear that “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 6:23, NKJV, emphasis mine). There is an abundant supply of grace and forgiveness if one returns to His fold. All by grace and by grace alone.

We are indeed unique! God’s masterpiece! The statues and great paintings my wife and I saw in Rome cannot produce children. They are lifeless, man-made pieces of work. They are dead stones, marbles and canvas. But not the real human beings -- male and female, because they are living and dynamic creatures, designed by the greatest Artist of all.

The Psalmist David praises his Artist for creating him:

“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;

you formed me in my mother’s womb.

I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!

Body and soul, I am marvellously made!

I worship in adoration—what a creation!
